March 13, 2020
Dear GCS Families,
We are writing to inform you that Groton Community School will be closed for the next two weeks. This was a difficult decision, made in keeping with the closure of the Groton-Dunstable Regional School System, along with local school districts in Merrimack Valley. Once again, we have had no confirmed, presumptive, or suspected cases of the COVID-19 virus at our school. However, this precautionary measure is being taken to prohibit the potential spread as more cases may possibly occur.
AT THIS POINT, we plan to resume classes on Monday, March 30, 2020. We are in contact with our local Board of Health and our MA Early Education and Care Licensing Agency to inform us on what is best for children, families, and staff. Information from health officials is changing as more is known, and we will absolutely keep GCS Families up-to-date.
While school was closed today for children and families, our staff worked diligently to complete a thorough and deep cleaning of Groton Community School from top to bottom. The health and safety of GCS children, families and staff is a high priority, and we are complying with CDC and state protocols for cleaning and disinfecting procedures with regard to the COVID-19 virus.
Again, we do not take school closures lightly. We know that this health crisis is a cause for great concern and anxiety for families, and that the closure will impact many.
We encourage you to stay informed through reliable sources (www.cdc.gov and www.mass.gov), and to take recommended steps for you, your family, and the community at large to stay healthy. It is imperative that we work together as a community to mitigate the extent of the COVID-19 outbreak, by adhering to personal health recommendations and especially through the practice of social distancing for now.
Thank you for your patience and partnership in the current crisis.
Sincerely,
Linda Kosinski, Director, lkosinski@grotoncommunityschool.org
Lisa Stafford, Assistant Director, lstafford@grotoncommunityschool.org
