March 31st Family Update

March 31, 2020

Dear GCS Families,

We know that you have all been waiting for an update, as we approach a new month.  First, thank you for your patience and understanding in these trying times for all of us, physically, emotionally, and financially amidst the current coronavirus crisis.  As implied in our last communication with families, we have been researching and investigating a number of potential strategies to keep Groton Community School going strong during the mandatory MA closure of all schools and non-emergency early childhood centers.  We know that our closure puts a heavy burden on families, especially those who depend on us for childcare.

The passage of The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act has allocated funds to help small businesses negatively impacted by the pandemic and economic downturn.  We have contacted legal and bank representatives and have begun the process of applying for funding.  Because this was just passed by the Federal Government, procedures and guidelines are still being flushed out by all parties involved.  Please know that GCS is in the queue, however.  We look forward to more definitive answers to our questions, will continue to work on the process, and will routinely update you on these efforts.

In light of the uncertainty and enormity of current events, we are hoping that families will consider making their April tuition payments or a portion thereof.  Even if we receive government funding, it is highly likely that GCS will be operating at a shortfall when factoring in everyday expenses, as well as costs that have arisen as a result of the health crisis.  We understand that some family budgets may be constrained during these trying times.  If that is the case, please contact us at info@grotoncommunityschool.org.  If your tuition was pre-paid or if a check has already been sent to the school though direct bill pay and you want to convert it to a donation, or a refund, please let us know. Our goal at GCS is to be there for you now, upon re-opening, and for years to come.  As contributions, April tuition checks will be tax-deductible, are eligible for a Corporate Match, and can be mailed to 110 Boston Road, Groton, MA 01450.

In the interim, we are advising teachers to continue their efforts to reach out, connect, and share curriculum ideas with children and families. Rest assured, we are also working on Camp Kaleidoscope plans and will relay those shortly. We will be in touch soon, and hope you are all healthy and safe!

Sincerely,

Linda Kosinski, Director, lkosinski@grotoncommunityschool.org
